The Maize drill.
This was taken moments after the drill returned home after a days drilling. The maize will be used for making silage which we will harvest in the autumn. The silage will be used for primarily cattle as winter feed. Although the maize cobs look the same as the corn on the cob you buy to eat, it is in fact a variety which has been developed to produce a very high starch content. We could eat it but it would not taste so good! It is harvested when the grains of the cobs are 'cheesy' or just before they go hard.
