The Kennet

Water...rivers are such an integral part of English history and landscape.

Over the centuries, the Kennet has played a central role in the lives of all those in the Kennet valley. Dozens of miles along its entire length were dependent upon it, stretches of the valley were farmed as water meadows, and the purity of its chalk filtered water led to the development of trout farming. For a period this century, the Kennet even supported a substantial watercress industry in the neighbouring village of Ramsbury.

Today the Kennet is chiefly valued for its trout fishing and it's role in providing a natural habitat for wildlife.

A unique environment it is stunning at almost any time of the year, but especially so in summer sunshine.
