Nothing is worth more

Hanging on in there

Went round to my allotment today with the remains of my Christmas tree to start the process of turning it into compost...and to pick a cabbage for a friend who regularly cooks me dinner and has been pestering me for a home grown cabbage in return for some time now.... I was delighted to see my little local robin has survived the snow and ice and is still hanging on in there. Last year I built a birdbox specifically for a robin (helped by the wife of the cabbage-loving friend) and was very disappointed when the 'to let' sign was ignored and the comfy wee home lay empty all through the breeding season...hopefully this year he may change his mind and take up residency especially as he has been regularly supplied with titbits through the winter ...my fellow carpenter, equally disappointed last year that our labour of love was spurned, did suggest at one point that maybe robins don't like yellow and that what I should do is repaint our construction an entirely different colour....so far I have not taken up that suggestion, I think myself that feeding the bird through the winter months is more likely to lead to a successful tenancy than painting the birdbox pink.
