Thatcher's legacy
You may wonder why I call it this, well, its like this: when she died and they were planning her funeral at St Paul's, there was a fair amount of concern that the youngsters who were shouting slogans such as the witch is dead. Interestingly these kidd had not been born when she was finally kicked off her (political) perch, but probably could say that she did have a pretty profound impact on their lives. The fear was that they might also have watched one too many Kevin Costner films and hide under a manhole cover, waiting for the procession to go past, only to pop out like a Jack in a box. To guard against this serious threat, the Met came up with a genius solution. A bit of sticky rubber seal which was applied to every manhole on the route. It seems that the solution was very effective, as can be seen by the complete lack of Jack in the Box performances. It is good to see that the police have their priorities right.
