We hiked up Wank - one of the mountains surrounding Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Pretty arduous. Not because of the terrain, but because it turned out to be the hottest day of the year.

32º. Not good hiking weather. We'd been watching the forecast, of course, so we started at 8.30am. That meant a 5.30 departure from Gaimersheim.

Worth it for the views at the top and the lovely lunch in the Wank-Haus - the Hütte on the summit.
