A small village
We drove just a few miles through lanes crowded with high grass and wild flowers to the Somerset village of Podimore. This is the octagonal tower of the tiny, early 14th century church of St Peter. The tower was built in 4 stages, the lowest being square and the others octagonal. A single bell was installed in 1633.
Podimore is known locally as a big roundabout on the A303, but the village hides quietly some distance from it, and was very quiet and peaceful on this warm, summer Sunday afternoon.
The Podymore Inn has been renovated beautifully and was a very pleasant place to have Sunday lunch! I'm not sure why the name of the inn is spelled with a y, so we'll have to go back again and find out!
