In The Occupied Territory

By FinHall

Do you remember the first time ?

I had a young man in my taxi last night, and he asked me a simple question, " If you don't mind me asking driver, what have you done in your life?"

He was a wee but of a troubled person, and he explained to me why. I, of course will not go into it here.

But it got me thinking, I tend not to look back, therefore I am not one for being nostalgic.
But once he was gone I did wonder.

Well apart from having a smashing wife, two brilliant children, seven grand kids, spending three years in the army, 37 driving a taxi, flown in a hot air balloon, been under the Caribbean in a submarine, sailed right through the Panama Canal, been inside the great pyramid of Giza, been on the roof of the World Trade Center, rode a horse along the Pacific coast in Baja California, seen the cliff divers of Acapulco, been almost toppled off on an elephant over a sheer drop cliff in the rainforest in Thailand, rode a camel in a sandstorm in the Sahara, almost capsized in a felucca on the River Nile, watched the sunset over the valley of the Queens every night for a fortnight, seen the Barbary Apes in Gibraltar, sailed on Loch Ness, driven a double decker bus, been under Niagra Falls, seen the late great Tim Buckley playing live, met one of my heroes; Terry Jones, seen a tank blow up a house, ( it was empty and it was just target practice) have eaten fried crickets, seen my football team beat the mighty Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the same season to lift a major European trophy , had a solo photo art show, witnessed a bank robbery by the Vatican, and attended Aberdeen's first competitive European football match.

Not much really then.
