J for June - Jiggered
John and his friend Jason (lots of Js) have been planning for ages to do Stage 2 of the Tour de France route today - 125 miles from York to Sheffield with over 4000m of climbing. They did the York to Huddersfield stretch in torrential rain, it hardly stopped for 7 hours and they arrived bedraggled and exhausted for lunch. Jason said the rain was so bad in Hebden Bridge he had considered just abandoning his bike and jumping in a cab.
Not to be deterred they set off for the last 55 miles in light drizzle, knowing the ascent of Holme Moss awaited them. This is John getting to the top after some considerable effort. He was so knackered he had to have a lie down in the back of the car, much to the dog's disgust. Don't suppose the riders will be doing that on July 6th. Jason's back went on the climb; he made it to the top but couldn't carry on so I brought him back here and he has now gone home to recuperate - John has carried on alone so I am expecting a call to collect him from Sheffield some time tonight.
Nutters!!
After the horrendous morning, it was lovely that to see clearly now the rain has gone.
