The church of the storms, St Winwaloe, Gunwalloe

Simple and humble inside, it has stood, been destroyed and risen again since the fifth century.Outside the separate bell tower is half buried in the cliff, and the statue of St Winwalloe guards the doorway. Much of the carved and painted woodwork and rood screen comes from the wreck of the. St Antonio of Lisbon wrecked in the bay on Saturday 19th January 1527.
Unusually for such a tiny church it has two fonts, one from 1100, the second from the thirteenth century.
There's a charming tree of prayers written by the local children by the window, and the church is situated at the foot of the sand dunes, miles from the village.
After a thousand years there are still services every Sunday.
As an expression of honest and enduring faith, it beats any cathedral in my opinion!
