St Mary's Peak, Flinders Ranges
Up at 5 this morning to set off to Wilpenda pound campsite. Didn't get a tap on the door last night which was good so we didn't have to pay! Left Quorn and we watched the sunset an hour later on a little dirt road whilst eating breakfast. Arrived at wilpenda pound at 8. Very pretty drive over there. We booked a camping spot and went to check it out. Made sandwiches and then set off on our walk to St Mary's peak. St Mary's peak is the highest point in the flinders. We had a bit of our lunch at 11! Very, very steep climb to the top. There were about 3km of rocks. Poor mother struggled a little. Mother kept saying 'bloody Duncan' as a joke, as he was the one who said we should do the walk. However, when we got to the top it was definitely worth the walk. Got 360 degrees view of the flinders. The mountain ranges were incredible. Nice big trek back down. We saw a snake in a hole of one of the rocks. Said to mother to look at the tail sticking out and we suddenly saw it's eyes looking at us. Mother suddenly had quite a lot of energy to run away!! Finally made it back to the camper van. Bit of a spaz and couldn't start the engine, we thought the battery had gone but we actually need to turn the steering wheel to get it going! Had a nice shower and then we set the camper up inside and made supper. Had a good salad with a pear cider!
