First birds

We arrived last night on Antikythra and were up at 6 am to go around the nets.
Whilst there were not many birds to ring, there was some quality and this was certainly the most gaudy of our catches.
It had a twig wrapped around its leg which was causing damage to it and so not only did the bird get a shiny new ring but it also was relieved of the stick and has a better chance to survive another season.
That said this species, Golden Oriole - sadly rare in the UK - migrates south of the Sahara and so this bird has already completed that journey there and back.
No apologies for a few bird images over the next fortnight!
