Harbour Bay on the Camel Estuary

Today's walk was a 7 mile circuit from Padstein. (Padstow really, but the place has been taken over by TV Celebrity Chef Rick Stein) Except it wasn't from Padstow, we started half way around at Trevone, a little village and cove to the west and walked the opposite way to the instructions.

The first half of the walk was along more stunning coastal scenery of the South West Coastal Path. Today's walk meant that we've now covered some 11 miles of the 630 miles of the whole walk. Once we turned the corner south we came alongside the beautiful Camel Estuary with its sands, beaches and dunes. A complete contrast to the cliff top walking but just as joyful.

Padstow (stein) was busy and did not detain us much except to have a cream tea in a very pretty and eccentric tea room away from the harbour. Proper cups and saucers and all sorts of nick-nacks on shelves. A good tea too.

The last couple of miles were not dull either, despite being inland and across fields. We walked along narrow country lanes festooned by wild flowers, then on a footpath through fields of barley. (Must be a song title there somewhere) and finally through a couple of fields of oilseed rape which were taller than us all and difficult to walk through owing to them having fallen across the path.

The walk ended by strolling down a lane back to the carpark - the lane strewn with wild flowers including the everlasting sweetpea which was just coming into flower.

We went down to the beach to enjoy the delights of the small, perfect cove at Trevone before the journey back to the house. Evening meal tonight was in Wetherspoons. A curry night and very good it was too.
