Abbotsbury Swannery
23rd May marked the birthday of that inimitable and notable cat Smokey, who turned seven with his normal grace and dignity, and was rewarded with double rations of cat food.
As it happens, it was also my birthday, and was marked with a trip down to Dorchester to visit the Spotlight Kid and his wife. Over lunch we formulated a plan for the afternoon, which resulted in him and me visiting the Swannery at Abbotsbury to see the cygnets, there in abundance at this time of year. He managed to avoid blipping cute swan chicks in favour of a scrawny baby coot, but I was unable to resist this junior hitch-hiker.
We attended a swan-feed and caught sight of an oystercatcher nest, a pochard, a bar-tailed godwit, a pair of escapee black swans and many other ducks and geese.
