The Lilac View
The rain seems to have stopped today, not for long I am sure. At least it seems to be making everything grow/sprout/flower!
Today I noticed the effect that the mild winter has had up here... there seems to be an abundance of young birds, much more than I can remember in the last 19 years. 3 robin fledgings today (not seem them before), a big sparrow family, the thrushes who left a few weeks ago, blackbirds, starlings, and blue tits whose young are still in the nesting box... can't be long now? We don't usually put bird food out during the spring but having seen these birds parents trying to constantly feed their chicks, I think we can give them a hand. I was amazed to see a sparrow picking up bird seed on the ground and putting it straight in its baby's mouth - it was right next to it! I wonder if it needs crushed up a bit, what a job they've got!
