The clearing
Yes, this is a clearing in the woods - we're on the track between Kilmun Arboretum and the top of Puck's Glen - but the title also refers to the fact that this area has been cleared of the stacked wood that lay in a huge, precarious pile, first on the steep rock side of the track where it threatened to roll down on the unwary, and then on the lower side where now there are only these two fat bits of tree. Much of this was storm damage, and now all that is left is that wonderfully rich gold sawdust.
But the main reason for taking this photo is the wonderful randomness of the rhododendron bushes among the trees. I'm so struck by their vivid abundance this year that I keep taking photos of them. Look carefully and you'll see several bushes, irrepressible among the trees.
