Jacob's dream
Today we couldn't go to our usual venue for the art class as the premises had been booked by others, so we set off to Comrie where one of our members is the local Rector of a charming fifth century Episcopalian church. The group settled in to sketch or paint various aspects of the charming little church but my eye was drawn to some unusual pieces of artistry in stained glass. The rector explained that this particular piece was designed and created by a lady whose son had died very young. It is an astonishingly beautiful and poignant piece of work and as it is not yet mounted against a window I asked if it could be brought outside so I could take a photo of it for you. You can see Jacob lying at the bottom of the pane, presumably dreaming, and then you can see folk going up to heaven including, very clearly, a young boy in jeans as he gently climbs the ladder towards the welcoming hand of an angel. What a fabulous tribute she has created for him.
