Marching compass
We are approaching the anniversary of the D-day landings and this little artefact was given to me by my dad. It is a British army compass of similar design to those issued in WW2 but its provenance is not certain. Nevertheless it is an attractive and interesting object , and one I have used when hiking and sailing, with good effect. Dad did not land in Normandy, he was with the 8th army in N.Africa and Italy.
“We are all subject to the fates. But we must act as if we are not, or die of despair.”
― Philip Pullman, The Golden Compass
