Lake Tasman
We took a drive along Lake Pukaki to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park today. It's a spectacular drive with stunning views of our highest mountain, none of which I managed to make Blipworthy . . . I'm blaming the angle of the sun?! Hence the blip of Lake Tasman! A few facts for you:The Tasman Glacier is New Zealand's longest glacier ,at 27 kms in length. It covers an area of 101 sq kms and starts at a height of 3000 metres above sea level. Waters from both this glacier ,and the Murchison Glacier ,pool at the end of the glaciers forming Lake Tasman. From here they flow south in the wide valley of the Tasman River ,which itself flows into Lake Pukaki. Eventually the water flows into the Waitaki River and on to the Pacific Ocean ,north of Oamaru.
