Life's a beach

It's not quite Baywatch but given that he was up so early, Nikki and I decided to take the wee man down to Carlsbad State Beach before work this morning.

We were only there briefly but in that time we saw a whole host of dolphins playing in the surf. I tried desperately to get a shot of the the wee man walking, with dolphins in the background but unfortunately the early start took it's toll and I ran out of patience. I already regret that decision - although I'm sure they'll be plenty more opportunities.

We arrived in Carlsbad just in time for 'June Gloom' - a month when the mornings are notoriously overcast and dull. Apparently it brightens up by the afternoon in to more holiday-esque sunshine.

The hours will be long for me while we're out here but thankfully our hotel is next to the office so I'm able to sneak home at lunch and again in the early evening to give the wee man his bath and bedtime story. I must admit that I do like my work but I'm certainly looking forward to the weekend when I can go and explore Southern California with my toddling wee family.
