Stare Down

See who blinks first (in large).

I was finding all sorts of odd bugs to photograph today, but none of them were very pretty or even interesting. That is until I spotted this damselfly (a Rainbow Bluet male); glowing green and seated in a sea of green he just screamed, "blip me"! It was windy again and detailed macros on swaying plants were quite the challenge. But I couldn't give up on this opportunity. So I eased my body down into the wood chips, inched closer to his perch, with seriously tiny movements so I wouldn't spook him. Of course, a mosquito just had to attack the side of my face as I finally got into position... :( But I didn't dare swat it, the only movements I could afford were what was necessary to adjust the camera. (How many times can one mosquito bite anyway?... You don't want to know...) He stuck around for quite a while and even repositioned a few times in the same general area which gave me some alternative images. Three others starting HERE. My favorite was the other closeup of his face, but it was really too severely cropped for blip.
