The Newspaper is still Alive
I found myself sitting alongside a group of Bradford Grammar School pupils this morning. I've previously blipped a group (here) more typically transfixed by their phones so this was a refreshing surprise. There was not a mobile device in sight and the ensuing conversation amongst themselves was very civilised. I was given some hope for the future!
I'm going to admit to a guilty pleasure tonight. I've become a "Game of Thrones" addict. I was rather late coming to this series, but egged on by TJ, and the gift of the box set of the first series from Forrest at Christmas, I've been slowly catching up with the whole thing this year and recently arrived at the point where I'm watching live with everyone else - and now no longer have to dive out of the room when people start discussing the show. I'm still recovering from last night's episode. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but 'that' I was not expecting.
I was skeptical to begin with but I'm now totally hooked. The production values are astonishing. The acting is simply brilliant. The nudity is quite delightful! The world created has a ring of authenticity that makes it feel incredibly real. Evil is driven by motive rather than existing as an abstract entity, like it so often does in other fantasy worlds, and that puts this way ahead of all other such drama. It's simply the most brilliant entertainment. And after a tough day at the office, an hour spent in Westeros usually makes me feel somewhat more grateful for the life I have!
I've been on the train this last couple of days, having too much work to do to afford the distraction of cycling in, so with the weather forecast due to be bad tomorrow I dragged myself out for a run on the moor tonight. That was an effort of will - but I'm so glad I did. My deadline was met earlier this evening and I have one more big day tomorrow before things get a little easier.
Thanks so much for your thoughts on Warren. It's certainly quite a challenging photograph. It still makes me feel a little uneasy but and I'm not sure whether that says more about me than it does him.
