Gappy Field near Warnham

This field is opposite Horsham Corner Wood and is looking roughly south The cereals were evidently affected by the wet weather we had at the beginning of the year as there are large bare patches.

The field lies close to the parish boundary and is on the heavy Weald Clay. This is not particularly good for growing crops but does grow good Oaks! Despite this, it has been arable in many places in the area for a very long time. The roads in the area historically were very bad during the winter and often impassable. It would not have been easy to travel even on horseback during the winter months due to the deep mud!
