Surprise!

A day of surprises:

Surprised I got no sleep AT ALL last night.

Surprised I heard a cuckoo in the dawn chorus for the first time in ages round here.

Surprised that I actually got out of bed at 4:00 this morning to try and track it down.

Surprised it stopped calling as I got halfway down the road...probably not!

Surprised I didn't find it?

Surprised by finding a blue tit nest in the willow tree in the garden.

Surprised that the little owls I'd been told about in Gloucester weren't there.

Surprised that this Little Owl didn't come through my windscreen this afternoon, as he was surprised at me rounding the corner.

He was even more surprised that I crept into the barn after him...no surprise there then!
