Kereru

The kereru is our native pigeon, it's quite a large bird and used to be a prized catch!

Now we are so fortunate to have a large number living in our area.They are such beautiful birds, just love their colour especially when they catch the sun.

We don't see as many here in the late summer and autumn when their food source is less, but just noticing them returning over the past week, there seems to be a number of trees producing berries. Spotted this one while out walking this morning.
