ESB - South View
First thing this morning I went to the Empire State Building, prepared to stand in the queue for hours. As it turned out, there was no queue at all! Perfect. I bought a ticket for the 86th and the 102nd floor, first stop was of course the 86th. On the east side, it was very sunny and comfortable. The other sides were a lot colder and windier. The views were amazing. This is the view of the south side, you can just make out the Statue of Liberty in the upper right corner. On the mid left you can see just a bit of the dark Flatiron building. Top left corner is start of Brooklyn, top right the start of Staten Island.
Then I went to the 102nd floor, which cost an extra 15 bucks, and not entirely worth it I thought, because you cannot go outside so you are stuck with mucky windows. Views are not that different from the 86th floor either. But it was nice that it was warm and there were not a lot of people, and because it is smaller it was faster to switch between views.
The rest of the day was spent visiting shops. First Bloomingdale's, then I searched about an hour to find Mood (a couple zipper/sewing supply shops did not know it existed!?!), then tourist shops and Macy's.
