Making the bridge

A highlight of the conference was the afterwork harbour tour laid on for us. As we glided slowly along the canal through Christianshavn, almost every vantage point overlooking the canal (and quite a lot of the many boats moored two deep along the side) was crammed with people eating, drinking and generally enjoying the early summer sun. Thursday was Ascension Day and that's a public holiday in Denmark. As it fell on a Thursday this year, most people 'make the bridge' to the weekend (a practice rendered impossible in the UK where we basically only have bank holiday Mondays).

Earlier on my colleague and I worked incredibly hard - the equivalent of giving six conference papers back to back. We were bushed by 5pm, but of course had to gird our loins for the merriment which culminated in dinner at the National Museum of Denmark. We definitely didn't join in the after party, which apparently involved dancing as well as drinking.

The hotel blip provides a taster of the harbour.
