Lone Carpenter Bee

Is it me or are there fewer bees around this year? Last year at this time, I could pretty much go to any cluster of flowers and find dozens of honey, bumble, and carpenter bees. This year, I really have to look hard to find a bee. I hope the reason is that they found some nicer flowers nearby...
