Like a Ball of Sprouts

Alas, I've no idea what this intriguing looking flower is, but it was one of several spotted on this morning's walk. It was quite large, looking like a giant overgrown dandelion, 3 feet tall and ready to spread its seed, or possibly a giant ball of alfalfa sprouts. For now, it will have to remain nameless, unless maybe, just maybe, someone out there can identify it?
