Anniversary Celebration Selfie

Today we celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. In 1965, he was 19 and I was 15 and we got married. Our chances of making a marriage last were one in a million. We had not a clue what we were committing to, but that didn't matter, we still said, "I do."

Today, after I finished my work at the campus, we drove to Orange County to be near the Pacific Ocean, to have dinner at a favorite little Italian restaurant in Laguna Beach and just to "pause," to ponder, and to celebrate. We both know that we have been blessed beyond measure.

Tomorrow we step into the first day of our 50th year together. We turn our faces toward the future with anticipation and we also turn our faces toward the past with a sigh.

Life is complicated and marriage just adds to the complexity, but we are immensely glad we're together. He is my best friend.
