Stairway to Heaven???

Out in the boat, we saw this tree cut into steps along the base of a steep and impenetrable bush clad hillside. There is no way to access the base of these stairs but by boat and there seems to be no where that it is leading to. What were they thinking? Who went to all that trouble? Only seemed fair to justify its existence by throwing off one of the kids and making them climb up them to get a blip. Now at least someone out there in the wide world will marvel at the creativity of one with great chainsaw, out in the wilds chopping up stairways to heaven!
This is more or less round the corner from Cathedral Cove in the Coromandel New Zealand. Some of you may have seen Prince Caspian the movie, where the kids get transported from the London underground to Narnia ( Cathedral Cove) and its magical kingdom. THis stairway predates the filming of the movie by many years, but might well have been added to the script by C S Lewis if he had only known.
