a day in my life....

Bergen

Last night when we arrived here in Bergen we were met by our hosts for next few days, Richard and Kristel.

Last October, when Richard was in the UK with work, he stayed with us....we took him out to the D&D, had a few beers and he casually said "You pay for the meal here and when you come over to Bergen I'll pay." ......well, you don't have to say that twice!

They live in what I would think of as a seventies style (it's actually 50's), split level Scandinavian house that clings to the side of a cliff overlooking a fjord....it's very cool. The kids have spent the morning fishing and crabbing from the bottom of the garden.

This afternoon we went into Bergen to do the tourist thing which, for us, included eating whale meat (like a fishy, very tender steak) and climbing the mountain overlooking the city....fortunately there is a train that takes you up there allowing us to walk down. This seemed like a much more sensible option. The views from the top are great. In the middle of the picture is the world's biggest ocean liner...the Queen Mary 2. It's so big it can only fit under the bridge at the entrance to the harbour at low tide. It dwarfs the five storey buildings around it.

Now time for wine and BBQ.... More adventures tomorrow.....
