Thick Legged Flower Beetle
I've managed to spend almost the entire day in the garden. Getting into the polytunnel was becoming a machete job as the beans took over! Finally they're out and climbing supports rather than tangling perilously together.
I found this little Thick Legged Flower Beetle, Oedermera nobilis, gorging on the pollen from the Ceanothus flowers. Their metallic green colour is marvellous. This one is a male as it has the thick thighs that give them their common name. The females are similar but lack the fat rear legs. Harmless, they only eat pollen as adults and like a wide range of flowers, pollinating the plants as they go.
A nice early blip today. No peace for the wicked... heading for the kitchen!
