All of the Stars

About 18 months ago, Miss H. announced she wanted to give up piano lessons and take singing lessons instead. She'd never sung to us (or anyone else) properly before so we didn't know how serious she was, but we persuaded her to keep the piano, and ask her teacher about singing - which she did, and was promptly marched along to one of the choir leaders... sorted!

Around a year ago, still having never sung to us, she recorded a song on her phone from Pitch Perfect and she sounded like nothing we could have imagined, but still we had to listen to it on her phone while she was hiding in another room :-) Aww....

We encouraged her to get over her fears of singing herself publicly, although there was no sign that happening anytime soon. Meanwhile maybe 6 months ago she took up guitar playing for the second time and has stuck with it, having great fun learning new songs herself. We can even jam together :-) Although she did sing, it was more of a sing-a-long type singing, but I suppose it helped her get through her embarrassment.

The point of this story... her anniversary present to us... a live (in person) rendition of All of the Stars (Ed Sheeran song from the Fault in Our Stars film she is desperately waiting on), playing the guitar herself. I say in person, she had her back to us and was very nervous, but it allowed us to listen to her voice again and not put her off.

Not only did it surprise us of her voice again, but this was major stepping stone for her that I hope will at least encourage her to do it again even if just for her own confidence. It was a lovely present, made us proud of her overcoming her fear, and brought a tear to our eyes... well done Babes!
