Funchal

Another day, another cruise liner. Possibly one of the smallest I’ve seen whilst up here but after yesterday and the fog I was just glad I could see it.

Built in 1961 the MV Funchal once served as the Portuguese Presidential Yacht. In 2012 she was nearly sent for scrap when its owners went into liquidation whilst she was in a Lisbon shipyard undergoing a refit. But in 2013 she was purchased by a Portuguese entrepreneur, along with 3 other ships, to serve a newly formed company, Portuscale Cruises.

After completing her refit in August 2013 she returned to cruising as a 4* vessel
