Far From The Madding Crowd

It's a very calendar picture view, a neat row of cottages almost lost in the folds of greenery, but why would you choose to build way down there.
No visible roads to get to them; even the railway veers away, and I think you can assume no mobile signal. In fact during the dark winter months, I doubt the daylight ever ventures that far into the valley.
