Choose them wisely
“Words are things. You must be careful, careful about calling people out of their names, using racial pejoratives and sexual pejoratives and all that ignorance. Don’t do that. Some day we’ll be able to measure the power of words. I think they are things. They get on the walls. They get in your wallpaper. They get in your rugs, in your upholstery, and your clothes, and finally in to you.” - Maya Angelou
Years ago, when I first heard her speak these words, I promised myself to choose my words wisely. Because if angry, misogynistic, racial, bad words can seep into your clothes and in to you - so can the good words.
I choose Love. Friendship. Beauty. Tolerance. Hope. Peace.
(forgiveness.compassion.courage.honesty.laughter)
Thank you, Dr. Angelou, for your words and your wisdom
- as I read today: "With the passing of Dr Maya Angelou I feel like the world is now only half a wise as it was yesterday."
