A la Ronde

Last full day of my in-laws stay and we decided to have a day out with my parents too. So we borrowed the people carrier from work and off we set. Our destination was A la Ronde at Exmouth, a "quirky 18th century sixteen-sided house". Built in 1776 by two spinster cousins on their return from a grand tour of Europe.

Apart from the amazing architecture and unique rooms there is a feather frieze around the sitting room gathered from native birds and a shell encrusted gallery containing 25,000 shells.

In the centre of the house is a two storey high atrium "the Octagon" with the gallery above. This orb suspended from the ceiling reflects the eight doors leading from the atrium into the ground floor rooms.

What an amazing place, well worth a visit ! Lunch at Otterton Mill near Budleigh Salterton with the largest crab sandwiches ever seen ! Happy days.
