A tiny ball of sadness
A moorhen couple were nesting in a tyre hanging from the next jetty along from us. With no boat in the way, we were enjoying watching them. Until today.
All the rain caused the water level to rise, and it flooded the nest. The moorhens abandoned what was left of the nest, and the two eggs are floating in the river. You can see one of them in this photo. They're white with orange-brown speckles.
I'm really sad about this. I was looking forward to seeing the baby moorhens. And those poor moorhen parents. All the effort they went to to build their nest and incubate the eggs. Wasted.
