Planting
It must be quite tiring lying on a ladder planting hundreds of plants.
The oldest floral clock in the world is being planted up for this year’s display. It was first planted in 1903 and each year it is replanted to a different design reflecting a special anniversary or event. Last year it was the 100th anniversary of Edinburgh Zoo with a team of gardeners taking two months and using 40,000 plants. Today three people were starting on this year’s theme celebrating Fairtrade. The first Fairtrade product was sold 20 years ago in the UK and 10 years since Edinburgh became a Fairtrade town and now Scotland has become the second Fairtrade nation in the world.
