Alpine Geranium (Erodium x variabile 'Album')

Over the weekend we were planting up the Belfast sinks which I mentioned earlier. We decided that the one positioned nearest the back door should be planted with alpines. This little gem is one of them, to give the idea of scale the flower will be 10 or 12 millimetres in diameter.

Nothing special about the day so I will give some information about the plant instead. As the name suggests it is a hybrid but a spontaneously occurring hybrid, this isn't terribly common and is less so as attempts to hybridise the two species for horticulture failed. The RHS had to resort to DNA testing to prove it is a hybrid between E. reichardii native of the Pyranees and E. corsicum native as the name suggests in Corsica.
