de-mystifying

This book has been incredible in teaching us about Romani culture, it has opened up the culture to us in a way I was not expecting!!! The author is the ex-husband of a friend of ours, he's worked with and for Romani gypsies for over 30 years...and we now have the honour of soaking us his expertise! It's even helped us know how to dress when we're prayer walking so as to not cause offence - the Roma people believe the top half of your body is clean and the bottom half unclean, so to wear a dress, for example, is shameful because the top and bottom are touching...and yet before reading this I'd have thought wearing a long dress would've shown I was being modest! We've yet to learn how much the people of Sa Penya adhere to all these cultural things, as they definitely don't seem to be 'traditional', but good to have a head start on some things to do or not do, and hopefully avoid a few cultural gaffes if we can.
