York
I really should have a # 'best laid plans'. Today was another such day.
I woke early and learned, on 'Farming Today', that grass sickness, fatal to horses, is most prevalent in SE Scotland, probably due to the poultry manure brought in there from S America in the early 1900's and used as fertiliser. Amazing, but sad.
Then to York on a train that broke down in Berwick for 30 minutes. Luckily I'd left plenty time to get to the meeting I was chairing.
When I booked this journey, ages ago, I had the idea to spend a couple of hours in York after the meeting. A lovely walk in a beautiful city on a balmy, late spring afternoon. Humph. Ended up having a very early meal in an Italian restaurant watching the cold drizzle rain on the tourists. That's why it's after 7 and I'm still in England, homeward bound.
I did walk to the Minster but forwent a visit, £10! Went towards my tuna salad instead.
Ah well, I tried.
