Camping 2014

We set off in torrential rain, and drove two hours in torrential rain.

When we got to the campsite, it was torrential rain. We (there were nine of us) decided to go into the village to get a cup of tea. We had hardly walked 5 minutes when the sun suddenly burst out and the skies cleared to a brilliant blue.

We set up camp shedding jumpers and layers as the sun got warmer. Daisy and her friend Charlotte are both 15 and are going on their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze trip on Tuesday so were 'practicing'. I don't know anything about putting tents up so I won't say it was comical to watch as I'm sure I'd do a worse job myself and I'm 30 years older.

When we had our four tents and a gazebo all up, we finally did go into the village but this time for a pint rather than a cuppa. We took the dogs who had been running about and were quite tired and they slept under the table.

We had a barbeque for dinner. We made a huge fire and sat up late drinking wine (adults) and hot chocolate (children and teenagers). It was great.

I slept better than I ever have when camping, having ditched the airbeds and gone for camping mats, foil-backed mats and fleece blankets underneath instead. I even had to de-layer in the night!
