Celebrating memorial day in Oxford, NY
Hugely sunny day and warm at 21ºC. All the garden rejoices as our flag flutters in the breeze hanging from the front railing. Feeling quietly patriotic.
Although the U.S. flag nowadays has 50 stars, when New York joined the Union there were 14 states ahead. It is legal to display flags with different number of stars depending on when a certain state joined. This one is like the flag that was hanging in Oxford on the day New York 's representative signed the documents.
This morning there were parades and people out shopping, of course. Backyard swimming for the kids in my neighbourhood and BBQs for everyone. A beautiful day when we remember those who have died for the sake of peace.
