To Extract Honey
When some of the boxes on the hives become too heavy to lift then that is the time to take the honey off the hives and extract it.
When the bees judge that the honey is ready to be stored they seal each cell with a wax capping.
The beekeeper has to use a special knife to cut off the cappings.
Here you see the frames of honey spinning at high speed in the honey extractor having had their wax cappings removed.
The honey is then drained out in to a bucket and put through a filter. It will then be warmed overnight before finally being put through a fine filter cloth in readiness for bottling.
