Bug of the Day

Here I was, processing this image with 'Springwatch' playing on the TV, when the follow-on 'Springwatch Unsprung' declared this insect to be 'Bug of the Day'

I actually saw two males this afternoon but of the half-dozen images taken, this was the best.

Oh - "What is this beast?" you ask.

It is a Scorpionfly - Panorpa communis

They eat dead insects, sometimes stealing them from spiders. The female sometimes eats the male. Harmless to humans.
