1940s Glamour in Ramsbottom

It was a 1940s weekend in Ramsbottom and so Chrissie1butter, Lancashirelass and I had a blipmeet there. There was sunshine, dressing up, steam trains, vintage cars, fish & chips and ice cream. There was so much to photograph....but we did a pretty good job of covering everything.

I adore steam trains and we saw a few, I love the sound, the smell, the smoke and the sheer power. There were lots of people who were dressed up in fabulous costumes: dresses, stockings, uniforms, evacuees, Germans, French Resistance and Americans...Chrissie was planning what she is going to wear next year ha ha ha.

When the train arrived at the station 'Rene' stuck his head out of the window...he had a big sausage with the Madonna with the Big Boobies in it...I loved 'Allo 'Allo. 'Edith' joined him and began to sing...she was wonderfully dreadful. The whole atmosphere was brilliant.

The fish and chip shop was doing a roaring trade and as we walked through the village the smell was so enticing that Chrissie and I just had to partake, Karen was much more healthy with her salad. We did all succumb to an ice cream though.

The sun was still shining and we were still in Bank Holiday mood so we headed to the Lowry and had a meander around the food festival. Everyone was having a brilliant time there too. We sat on the steps in the plaza listening to live music and supping a cuppa. There was a man sitting behind us, who had had a few bevies, he was commenting on our big lenses...that isn't a euphemism!....and he ended up taking pics of us as we took pics of him and it all got very silly...but it was good fun and we all had a great laugh. In fact ha said to me, "When you first sat down I thought you were going to be snooty...but you're not at all are you ha ha."

Today has been what Bank Holidays are all about.
