Tree sparrowlings
These five little birds are one of our new fledges of Tree sparrows. They are the rather rare cousins of the house sparrow, and we have been lucky enough to have them breeding in our garden for a few years, since we put up nest boxes for them.
They like to live colonially, so their boxes are in rows up tree trunks.
Here they are waiting outside the kitchen window, hoping their parents will be along soon with something to eat. While they wait they shuffle along the perch, and the one at the end gets pushed off and has to fly around to the other end!
This is quite an early brood, so we hope there will be another batch later in the year.
