Fertility assured

I come from a village called Barwick in Elmet. Every 3 years there is a Maypole Festival. It is crowned by a local man scaling the 90 ft maypole in the village Main Street.
Till relatively recently or was all done with ropes and ladders and the brave fellow scaled without a safety rope. Insurance and risk assessment has done away with that but it's still an impressive feat. Here he is untying the ropes half way up.
