Gasometers....
I like industrial architecture. And Gasometers can be attractive. I like the curves and the patterns caused by the girders. There used to be all over but have gradually disappeared as we have gone over to cleaner forms of energy than coal gas.
This one looms over the entrance to Philip's Park Cemetery in North Manchester on the edge of Manchester City's Etihad Campus. I like the contrast between the industrial structure and the natural shapes in the cemetery. There's a second one behind it in the distance. And you can just make out the Hilton Tower even further away.
There was a plan, around the time of the Commonwealth Games in 2002, to build a hotel inside it. Itv ever happened but with Sheik Mansour showering millions on the area maybe it would be time to revive the idea....
